Marketing, PR, Communications & Events Testimonial

GLOBAL PR & PARTNER COMMUNICATIONS, CALLSERVE

“Callserve is Europe’s leading Internet telephone company. Callserve’s state-of-the-art VoIP and SIP infrastructures enable customers to harness the power of the Internet to achieve call cost savings of up to 85%. Their cutting-edge technology has attracted substantive partners seeking to offer a branded version of the Callserve Internet telephone to their customers. It is now both a rare dot.com survivor and Telco success story.

Gareth was responsible for the marketing communications during Callserve’s transitional phase from dot.com start up to corporate success. He planned and implemented a global marketing, press, PR and publicity programme with UK and international IT/Internet/telecom trade, general consumer and lifestyle media.

Gareth managed a team of 12 PR & Marketing Executives. The role included B2B PR and corporate/financial PR as well as responsibility for the launch of the Callserve xpPhone USB handset, which facilitates Internet calling. The xpPhone launch press release reached an estimated global readership of 137,000,000 and was itself the subject of vertical trade and general news interest.

Gareth also planned and implemented a Global PR campaign for Phoneserve, Callserve’s pre-paid calling card version of the software, particularly active in emerging economies. He secured business-generating coverage on every continent. For both Callserve and Phoneserve, Gareth organised press conferences and briefings; arranged exhibitions and events; wrote press releases; wrote copy for websites, e-shots, promotions and advertisements, direct mail, newsletters and viral marketing and arranged translation into 14 languages. He secured business-generating coverage in all countries where Callserve and Phoneserve operate in Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America.

This extensive media coverage increased Callserve’s customer base by more than 25% and one- in-five customers came to Callserve as a result of reading an article he placed. The wider communications helped to raise a third round of funding to accelerate the company’s new projects and products.

Gareth wrote all VoIP-related copy for Callserve’s partners including Microsoft (for the launch of Windows XP, which was the biggest IT and PR event that year); RealNetworks (Real VoIP News, c.8million); Sony (The Sony VaioPhone); Freeserve (The Freeserve Webphone); the BBC’s beeb.net and Packard Bell. Liaising with their marketing departments and sometimes with their external agencies, he co-created and managed their VoIP communications programmes.

Gareth changed my opinion of PR by delivering global media coverage that generated real business – one in five customers came to Callserve directly from an article in a newspaper or magazine. He also helped to gain and maintain the profit-sharing partnerships with some of the World’s leading IT companies. Servicing these partnerships often required diplomacy and tact as well as marketing communication skills. I would happily recommend Gareth to any future employer.”
